Hot Coffee Potpourri
Coffee of the Hawaiian Islands
Kona Peaberry
Coffee
Made in the USA
by Mark Devlin
We all know that Kona Coffee is one of America’s best
agricultural gems, but few are aware of the rare Kona Peaberry coffee. Famers in this region go through
great lengths to ensure the quality of each bean exceeds world-class coffee standards.

For those of us that have had the pleasure of drinking this liquid gold,
we know how good it is and well worth the premium price.
However, there is a lesser known Kona Peaberry coffee bean that is more hidden from the public’s eye. To understand the rarity of this bean you must first
understand what a “peaberry” coffee bean is.
A coffee bean is the pit of a coffee cherry which typically grows in two symmetrical half’s very similar to a
peanut – flat on one side and round on the other.
A peaberry bean grows as a single inhabitant and comes out round – similar to a pit of a Bing cherry.
This genetic abnormality occurs in nature only about 3% - 5% of the time and has a different flavor profile than that of its cousins picked from the same plant.
What makes it taste differently is consistently debated among coffee industry intellectuals but all I know is that, as a micro-roaster, it tastes wonderful and
I recommend it to my customers all the time.
Kona Peaberry coffee, like its cousin, is full-bodied, well balanced with a very pleasing aroma and aftertaste.

With that said, Kona Peaberry offers more of a
bite with earthy flavor overtones and a more complex, almost botanical aftertaste with hints of caramel and spices.
This probably sounds like a snobby wine
review but even this thick-tongued Irishman can actually the difference.
So when you’re ready to take your coffee enjoyment to a new level and/or have a new conversation starter for that next dinner party, you must try Kona Peaberry
coffee.
Be sure to mention to your guests that they can drink their coffee with pride because Kona Peaberry is Made in the USA.
Mark and Trish Devlin are micro-roasters of fine Arabica coffees. They roast to order by the pound and mail directly to your front door step.
